Each and every new year gives us an opportunity to start afresh. In the path towards adoption, you need to take advantage of  all the resources available to you. Luckily for all of us there are multiple times during the Gregorian calendar, (which the U.S. follows) to review, renew, change course and restart. You have more than one chance, never fear!

Beyond the kick-off on January 1st, the Chinese, or Lunar, new year is in mid-February. The Jewish new year, Rosh Hashana, falls in mid-September. At each of these touchpoints in your adoption search you might take a moment to pause.

Once you have determined you are moving forward with a domestic (vs. international) adoption, you need to choose your path between using an agency and pursuing a private adoption. Each state and agency has their own varying requirements. But crossing this hurdle and getting to the starting gate is huge. Congrats to you when you arrive!

The next step is marketing yourself to prospective birthmothers. If you are working with an agency, they will guide you in their process but may ask you to provide additional marketing support. If you are working towards a private adoption, the lawyer you are working with will provide instructions for you to act on. How, when and where you market yourselves is really up to you.

“Like a morning dream, life becomes more and more bright the longer we live, and the reason of everything appears more clear. What has puzzled us before seems less mysterious, and the crooked paths look straighter as we approach the end.” Jean Paul

Good luck, and stay tuned.
