Why should we be aware of the Ides of March? What makes March 15th so special? Is it because it’s close to St. Patrick’s day? Is it because Seasonal Affective Disorder has made us all so crazy that we can’t possibly imagine the fresh tidings of spring?

The Ides of March is the commemoration of the fateful day in 44 B.C. when Julius Caesar, the dictatorial leader of Rome,Eid_Marsm was assassinated by a mob of Roman Senators lead by Brutus. “Et tu, Brutus?” It is a turning point in history, starting the transition from the Roman Republic to an Empire.

Personally, I see the Ides of March as a reminder that winter is on its waning cusp. Setting aside the superstition of the Ides of March coming, but not yet leaving, I find it as a good time to shake off the winter blahs, evaluate where I am and encourage spring by turning over a new leaf in my current roster of to-do items.

I encourage you to do the same. If you’ve been waiting to start your adoption journey, do it now. What are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present! If you are in process, review how far you’ve come, pat yourself on the back, then sit down and review your budget, your resources and your plan. If you don’t have a plan, make one.

Having milestones to strive towards in your adoption journey gives you a sense of motion in a process that is so often seemingly out of your control. Break down the adoption process into chunks and see what bits you can tackle an/or act upon. Building these bits up upon one another will create momentum in the universe to get your dream of growing your family out there and will also facilitate your optimistic outlook on your search for an adoption match.

Good luck, and get moving! Here’s to successful adoption plans and a lush, vibrant, joyous spring.
